Culture shock in the modern world

Culture shock is defined as something an individual might experience when visiting or moving a cultural environment different from one’s own. This can happen when immigrating to a different country, moving between social environments or simply engaging in a new way of living. The reasons are: new information overload, language barrier, technology gap and disorientation of the individual in a foreign environment. The transition is known as culture shock and consists of 4 phases: Honeymoon, Negotiation, Adjustment and Adaptation. It is not a rule, that culture shock happens to every individual in a situation of transition, as cultural differences affect everyone on a different scale.
