American Poets and Awards

The Academy of America Poets started in year 1934. Ever since, this academy aims at helping poets to rise by providing the required financial help and exposure. The exposure part is taken care of by the social media team and by publishing their works on various websites and magazines. Some of the awards that this academy gives away to help society recognize new talent are:

  • Academy oimagesf American Poets Fellowship: The fellowship reward is worth $25,000 and is awarded every year to one poet. It was started after the name of James Ingram Merrill and is in function since 1946. It is known as the first of its kind in America. This is highly regarded award and poets compete for it with great enthusiasm.
  • Aliki Perroti & Seth Frank Most Promising Young Poet Award: As suggested by the title, the purpose of particular award is to recognize young talent. Any poet who is twenty three years old or younger is eligible for this category. The award attached to this title is of $1,000.
  • Harold Morton Landon Translation Award: There are so many poets who translate poetry from other languages too. To award the best one, Harold Morton Landon Translation Award was introduced in 1976. This award is accompanied with $1,000 and given out annually.
  • James Laughlin Award: This award was offered for the first time in the year 1954 and ever since, it is awarded every year. The idea is to award a second poetry book to be published in the next year. The award is attractive as it not only includes $5,000 as the cash prize money, but also includes all expenses paid stay at The Betsy Hotel on Miami Beach, Florida. In addition to this, the winning book is distributed to almost one thousand poet members of the academy.
